Dividend stocks portfolio updates – December 2017

Happy New Year Guys!

I hope you had a wonderful 2017 and wish you all the best in 2018!

For those of you new to this website, in this post, I discuss the recent changes I made in my dividend portfolios and also discuss about my portfolio diversification strategies.

Stocks markets keep setting new records day after days, especially U.S market runs high without taking break – correction.

Financial experts have been predicting a deep correction in U.S market for years, but it doesn’t seem happening. We are living in second big bull market in the history. Investors have been enjoying unbelievable gain for more than 9 years.

We don’t know what will happen in the future. Thus, it is not harm to take some profits off the table in U.S stocks. So, I decided to trim two positions and took some profits. I may miss some gains if those stocks keep flying high, but I didn’t want to take risk.

I will consider buy them back if their price drop more than 10% from my selling price.

I didn’t make any major changes in my Canadian dividend portfolio. I just added 2 more ZDH (BMO international dividend ETF) using some dividend received in my TFSA account.

I made a couple of my changes in my newly built small cap growth portfolio.

In December, my dividend portfolios didn’t do well as markets did due to the high percentage of defensive stocks. Defensive stocks usually take hit when investors get confident in market, as many move their money from slow moving stocks to high flying one.

But I don’t have any idea to change my strategy. Therefore, I will keep building my assets using dividend paying stocks as I did past few years.

Here is the changes I made in my dividend portfolios in December 2017:

The changes made in my Canadian portfolio in December 2017.

  • Added 2 units of ZDH ETF at $22.19

The changes made in my U.S dividend portfolio in December 2017.

  • SOLD 5 shares of UNP at $131.20
  • SOLD 5 shares of TROW at $103.00

The changes made in my Small Cap Growth stocks in December 2017.

  • SOLD 15 shares of BTL at $15.13
  • BTL was purchased at $12.21 and sold it at $15.13 with a decent profit
  • SOLD 75 shares of HIVE at $3.41
  • HIVE was purchased at $3.60 and sold it at $3.41 with small loss
  • SOLD 45 shares GDS of $5.19
  • GDS received an offer to go private (take-over stock). A mall profits in less than a month
  • Initiated 15 shares of GBT at $16.83

I have $478.39 ($469.14+ $9.25 dividend) in the account. I will buy some small cap stocks in the coming days.

With these changes along with the new small cap growth investments, my estimated yearly passive income increased to $8414 in December.

I have updated the portfolio pages with these changes.

Happy investing!
